Remy (reactivity and re-directing towards owner)
Remy was a dog with reactivity to other dogs. In the video, when you see the dog biting the owner, it was the first time, I ever saw that dog doing it and I didn’t even know the dog did that. The owner didn’t tell me when I met her for the assessment. That is why it is so important to be honest at the beginning.
I was shocked when I saw that because during the assessment Remy was the perfect dog. Remy’s owner had been working so much with her dog before meeting me. But she was stuck on being able to overcome the reactivity. And the problem became worse when Remy started re-directing.
It became an emotional and psychological problem. It was just not the fear that Remy would react, it was the fear that he would bite her. The problem was on the owner’s confidence, a bit of handling as well. But mainly her trust in herself. She was feeling guilty and stuck, and that feeling was killing all her work.
All she needed was support and someone who guided her to navigate those tricky situations. She ended up overcoming her issues faster than she thought. So fast that we ended up doing the last session in a Dog Park.
